How to make Shrimp or Oyster Shooters:
The Bloody Mary Mix:
We like to make our own Homemade Bloody Mary Mix. It doesn’t have any added artificial ingredients, you can adjust the spice level, and it’s really so economical!
The recipe is listed below and you can see the full recipe for Homemade Bloody Mary Mix made with tomato paste and spices on our site. Note: The original mix recipe makes about 4 cups, so you may want to cut it in half if you are only making 12 shooters total.
If you want to make them non-alcoholic just leave out the vodka. They still taste great!
Prepping the shot glasses:
Shake the celery salt onto a small plate. Cut a lemon in half and rub the rim of the shot glasses. (You can use water if you don’t have a lemon). Dip the rim of the shot glass in the celery salt. Let dry for about 5 minutes.
Fill the shot glasses:
Depending on the size of your shot glasses you will need 1-1/2 ounces of mix per shot glass.
Garnishing Bloody Mary Shooters
- We like to use a combination of both shrimp and oysters.
- Choose large shrimp that have been poached or grilled.
- Oysters are generally served raw.
- Just thread shrimp or oyster onto a toothpick and lay it across the top of the shot glass. There are lots of beautiful toothpicks you can use for the shrimp or oysters.
- Finish with a leafy piece of celery. To find these small pieces look to the inside of the celery bundle. These bright green leaves and pieces are much smaller and work well for shot glasses.
Other garnish options:
- Can’t eat fish? Try an olive, cherry tomato, cornichon, or lime wedge
- Want meat instead? Cut a cooked piece of bacon into small strips
Make Ahead
- Everything can be assembled ahead of time
- Keep chilled until ready to serve
