This Apple Chutney truly packs a punch! Chutneys are vibrant, wonderfully balanced condiments that uplift any dish
Our spicy Apple Chutney blends warm spices with a tangy vinegar flavor that pairs beautifully with dishes such as a Cheese Board or Pan Seared Pork Chops, as well as roasted chicken or Pork Loin.
Here's how you can create this show-stopping condiment in your own kitchen!
Ingredients for Apple Chutney
- Apples - we use sweet-tart apples, such as Honeycrisp, Pink Lady, or a Braeburn
- Yellow onion - white onions will work fine too
- Light brown sugar - light has a slightly milder flavor than dark
- Fresh ginger - this gives the chutney a slightly spicy flavor
- Apple cider vinegar - to give the chutney a tangy bite
- Apple Cider - we like to use our homemade Apple Cider, but you can certainly use a good quality store-bought cider (be sure to use cider, not juice)
- Kosher salt
- Ground mustard - for a sharp, zesty kick
- Ground Allspice - which brings a warm, rich, savory flavor to the chutney
(See the recipe card at the bottom for exact quantities of each ingredient)

What is Chutney?
A chutney is considered a condiment, made from fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Everything is slowly cooked down with vinegars, sugars, and spices. Flavors can range from sweet, savory, spicy, or smooth. For example, apple chutney is sweet with a tartness, a mint chutney is fresh and spicy, whereas a tomato chutney is tangy, sweet, and spicy.
This versatile spread originated in the Indian subcontinent. In Indian cuisine, fresh chutneys are a mainstay of most meals. As a condiment, it pairs well with cheeses, cold cuts, and roasted meats. As a spread, it adds flavors to sandwiches and burgers. You can even add it to sauces or as a glaze on meats.
Because it is known to have a wide range of ingredients and flavors, you can have fun creating a chutney for every occasion.
