Ingredients for Strawberry Sauce Recipe
- Strawberries - we like to use fresh Strawberries, out of the garden is "the very best". If you are unable to use fresh berries, then frozen will work.
- Sugar - white granulated sugar
- Lemon zest - use the zest from ½ the lemon only
- Fresh lemon juice - we like to use Meyer lemons (they have a sweet flavor), but any lemon will do as long as they are on the small side.
- Cornstarch and Water - (optional) These ingredients will help with thickening and gives the finished sauce a nice shine.
(See the recipe card at the bottom for exact quantities of each ingredient)

How to make Strawberry Sauce
- Start with fresh strawberries (if they are not in season use frozen), hull and cut strawberries in half. You can use a Strawberry Huller Stem remover or use a knife to hull the berries.
- Mix cornstarch and water, if you are using.
- Blend all ingredients together in a medium saucepan. Mash strawberries slightly with a large potato masher or spoon. This helps the mixture cook down and release some juices.

- Let the mixture simmer on medium-low heat for 5 minutes.
- Remove from the heat and allow the sauce to cool completely.
- Serve and Enjoy!

Pro Tips
Want a smoother sauce? Use a blender instead of mashing the strawberries. Blend to the consistency you desire.
When using frozen strawberries - Allow berries to thaw completely and drain any excess liquid from the berries. With frozen berries, you may need to use additional cornstarch to achieve your desired consistency.
How to store Strawberry Sauce
- Refrigerate - Strawberry Sauce can be refrigerated for up to 5 days in an airtight container.
- Freeze - Freezing sauce is an excellent option and will allow you to enjoy fresh made sauces for up to 3 to 6 months.
- Canning - Canning sauce is the most long-term option for freshly made sauce and will allow you to store it in a dark location for up to one year. However, canning is a process that includes the sterilization of jars and lids. Water bath can sauce for 10 minutes, adjusting time for elevation as needed. Please see our water bath canning post for best practices.
